Abstract
To evaluate the smoking effects on bronchoalveolar cell and immunoglobulin of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, the analysis of Bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL) was done in 13 patients of lung cancer and 10 patients of pulmonary tuberculosis admitted to Soonchunhyang Univ. Hospital from Sep. 1983 to Jan. 1985.
The results were as follows.
1) The percentage of macrophage, neutrophil and lymphocyte was 79.3%, 7.5% and 12.4% in smoker group; 86. 1 %, 8. 1% and 6.0 % in nonsmoker group.
2) The total cell counts of macrophage, neutrophil and lymphocyte showed higher tendency in smoker group as compared with nonsmoker group.
3) BAL IgG/Alb/Serum IgG/Alb was average below 1.0 and showed higher tendency in smoker group as compared with nonsmoker group.
4) BAL IgA/Alb/serum IgA/Alb was above 2.5 and showed higher tendency in smoker group as compared with nonsmoker group.
We conclude that the smoking increase the number of macrophage, neutrophil, and lymphocyte and the local synthesis of IgA in the lung.
